Educators & Children
Part 1: Tue, May 17, 7-9pm
Part 2: Tue, May 31, 7-9pm
Total PD hours: 4 hours
Location: Interactive Online Zoom Sessions
Facilitator: Lisa Harrietha-Benson
The goal of the workshop is to help reduce educator stress and create calmer environments, to introduce
children to coping techniques and self-care routines at an early age and to promote well-being in teachers and
students.
“The premise of mindful education is that all human beings are born with the seeds of the most beneficial
universal qualities, such as compassion, creativity, integrity, and wisdom. From this perspective the ideal
education is to teach in such a way that fosters these beautiful latent qualities.
– Daniel Rechtschaffen – Author of The Way of Mindful Education and founder of the Mindful Education Institute Learning Objectives:
1. To learn more about mindfulness practices.
2. To become present and aware in our daily lives and when teaching others while developing mindful
practices to apply in our lives and to share with the children we work with.
3. To become familiar with various types of meditation practices (Focusing on breath, mindful walking,
mindful eating, gratitude practice, loving kindness, mindful based stress reduction).
4. To learn how to introduce mindfulness to children and youth and discuss simple practices to use in the
classroom to create a more mindful environment.
Facilitator’s Bio:
Lisa has been working with children and youth for over fifteen years. She holds a Bachelor as well as a Master’s
degree in Child and Youth Study from Mount Saint Vincent University. Over the past five years Lisa has taken time developing a regular mindfulness practice of her own. She has completed a 6-week mindfulness course as well as a mindfulness teacher facilitation course and a course specifically created for mindful educators. Lisa has also obtained a certification in Kids Life Coaching and in the MindBe Preschool Curriculum.
After overcoming anxiety and facing fears Lisa became very enthusiastic about sharing mindfulness with others
especially with children in hopes that teaching skills early would lead to less stress later in life.
