Loose parts are materials that can be transported, combined, and transformed(Nicholson, 1971). The possibilities inherent in loose parts are endless when educators think deeply about what is being offered to children. What are the properties of the materials? Knowing whether loose parts roll, spin, bounce, or stack is only possible when we play ourselves! This webinar will be your invitation to play and learn from loose parts. Come prepared with a sampling of materials that you can collect from home or work. The intention is that we will demonstrate what we want children to be in their explorations with loose parts: creators not consumers! If you respond to this invitation, it will become a loose parts provocation and an opportunity for reflective inquiry. Participants will be expected to engage in the chat room and share their experiences, prior knowledge, and current thinking about loose parts. We will learn from each other and from the many resources provided during the session.
