DescriptionCome & experience the benefits of spending time in the outdoor classroom during the colder months of the year. Bring along your creative ideas & challenges to share & brainstorm with colleagues.
The morning session will include a short presentation & an opportunity to explore materials & plan ideas to imple-ment in the outdoor classroom. In the afternoon we will visit the MSVU Child Study Centre playground on campus to set up the learning environment with a variety of materials & loose parts.

In this workshop, participants will discuss and learn about the overall health benefits for children and adults when spending time outside; participants will learn how to incorporate play opportunities from the indoor classroom into the outdoor environment during the colder months of the year., and participants will work collaboratively in the outdoor environment to plan, design and implement outdoor activities for young children.


Presenter Biography; Kathy Black has been in the field of Early Childhood Education for 35 years. In the beginning of Kathy’s career, she worked as a nanny and later as an early childhood educator in licensed childcare programs. After 15 years working as an educator, Kathy took a position with the Nova Scotia Provincial Government as an Early Childhood Development Consultant, which later evolved into Licensing Officer. In 2005 Kathy began offering curriculum work-shops to educators across the province, which she continues to enjoy. Most recently, Kathy enjoyed teaching at the Nova Scotia Community College as faculty in the Early Childhood Education diploma program.
